Participation from all members of the family is an integral part of the design and
implementation stages of the project.
What began as a simple desire to grow a few flowers has blossomed into a way of viewing
and creating a private world of peace and reflection.
Working with Zen Aesthetics has indeed increased the flower production of my garden,
but even more so, it has helped me to alter the landscape surrounding my home as well as the
landscape of my mind.
I look out my front yard and see the possibilities of a welcoming walkway. I look out onto
my back yard and see a gathering place for friends and family as well as a place for quiet
reflection.
Working from the outside in, Zen Aesthetics has shown me how to organize and de-clutter
physically, mentally and spiritually. A desire for some “soft” landscaping work has
metamorphosed into some “hard” landscaping work outside my home and inside my heart.

In the right photo, the location of the fire bowl will be replaced with a chess board designed specifically for this project. The
chess pieces have been inspired by Sheena's desire to infuse her culture into the project.

New mulch and a edging were put into place around this 15 ft. Evergreen. The evergreen was trimmed three feet above the
mulch to be able to show off future plantings and planned lighting. The lighting will focus up into the tree and will lighten the
corner increasing security.
The right photo illustrates how easily weeds take root around some recently transplanted hostas. Day lillies will be planted
after a good weeding is performed. Landscape edging will be used to retain soil and prevent grass from growing into the 6-inch
raised flower bed.
The entire project utilizes Cypress much will be used in all of the newly designed flower beds, complete with soaker hoses.
The mulch will help retain the water which, in turn, keeps new and transplanted plantings healthy.
As he grows, the needs of the family will change.
This is evident in the back yard where the swing area will be turned into a
bed of day lillies, climbing roses and new trellis.
